The international student experience in Durham is a very enjoyable experience and i would recommand it to anyone. You will always win something for your personal enhancement. If you are rather shy, do not hesitate to join clubs and societies as you will meet many people and that will help your socialisation.

The nightlife isn't great in Durham. Most people stay within university colleges, which have their own bar's, or make the short trip to Newcastle, which has much better nightlife. Durham is a pretty place with a very old cathedral, which is the focal point of the city. All the sporting activities are organised through the individual colleges, which makes for a lot of sport should you wish to take part.

Overall
The teachers at Durham appear to really care about their students. The help I received for instance in finding a work placement and in writing my dissertation was invaluable.

Personal comments
The location was fantastic, living on campus in the centre of the city. The majority of students were international students, so there was a good mix of nationalities. The facilities were decent, but the overall cost was more expensive than could be found if accomodation was arranged independently.

Rail travel can be quite expensive.Take a young person rail card, as you get good reductions.Whatever you are buying, always ask if there is a student reduction and always have your student card. Tesco supermarkets are good value for a quite good quality. Asda supermarkets have good deals.

if you're looking for student-only venues, then Klute night club is for you. You have also the Student Union events which are pretty good with unbeatable prices! Not far is Newcastle for a good night out. If you want to chill out in front of a glass of wine, Venels is perfect. What is worth visiting is the cathedral and the castle.and do not miss the boat ride in spring and summer time!
