The University was great, but if you are going to learn Spanish you might want to go to Granada or Madrid. It's just tough to get the classes you want when they are given in Catalan. I had originally been an Art major, with a minor in Spanish. But once in Barcelona I pretty much focused on Spanish.

If you are in Spain, live it up! Talk to the people. They LOVE to talk, but don't think they are bickering with you if you find yourself in a heated discussion. They just simply love to tell you what they think and then listen to your response. Travel as much as you can. It is easy to get around on the trains and busses. I loved my experience. I would suggest it to anyone who is given the opportunity. The only people who did not enjoy it were those who had romantic interests back home and those who did not care to learn about the culture and the language(s).

Overall

there are a lot of erasmus students so it's easy to stay between people coming from your own country but this would be an error because the best of erasmu is to stay with people coming from different countries

It's the best experience I did in my life. You will have a lot of fun and you will become more independent if you are a social and openminded person.

It pretty cool, really laid back, but not really in contact with fellow students. If you want to have more contact go to: www.esma.es, which is way smaller and more contact with other students

I wish I had known...
That it was not that easy to make friends in the University. Almost everyone were just girls at the psychology faculty, and they had already their group of friends or had a boyfriend and they lived in the outsides of the city. So it wasn´t like I went out with them at night or something.

The psychology faculty should have like more erasmus gatherings, and should make reunions where locals can meet international students.

To travel check out ryanair.com, easyjet.com, basiqair.com, you´ll find REALLY cheap flights. If it is possible, go a few days before to Barcelona, stay at a hostel and find the apartment to rent, it will be more cheaper than if you get it over the internet. Try interacting more with local people, international students have to put a little more effort, but it can be possible. If you have an oportunity to go study abroad, or travel. DO IT!!! It´s the BEST learning experience in ALL ASPECTS EVER!!!
