Leuven has a very international atmosphere, English is spoken by everyone that lives there whether belgian or foreigner. It is possible to leave there without speaking a word of Dutch (the local language)

There are lots of international students, and you'll probaly hag out with them, so your everyday language will be English. Belgians understand perfectly English, both in the supermarket and the bank,.

Although I was already used to study in English books and to take classes in English in my home university, this experience largely contributed to improve my English, because everyboby could speak English there and it was the language I used to communicate in my day-to-day life. The fact that I was living with only Belgium students also helped.

Belgians (especially students) are excellent at languages. Limited opportunity to speak the Dutch I learned because the Belgian students wanted to try out thier English (and they were very good)

Most of the people spoke good english. At the university everyone speaked english fluently (professors and students). Outside, the academic environment, people normally spoke good or fluen english. I think the main reason for that was that it was a student's town and because Leuven is located in Flanders - dutch speakers.

Learning a new language is something new to me, although english is not my mother tounge i did not experience having a hard time learning it as much as learning Dutch.
