I had some issues with my medical insurance. One tip - ask for counseling in English from the International Students office before making any decisions.

“International Student Trap”
Camila
Germany, Graduate
, 2021
Overall
Although a prestigious university, if you are an international student I would think twice before going here. This university labels itself as an international university, but in reality they don't even send important emails, such as the ones to pay your tuition and reenroll, in english. If you don't speak german prepare yourself to be have no assistance whatsoever from the staff and just know that you will be in disadvantage compared to those who do speak english.

Languages
Language of instruction: German
Was learning German a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my German
How much did you improve your German?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: At ease in most situations
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
Most younger Germans speak English fluently. If you really want to learn the language don't offer them any windows of opportunity to speak Enlish. Struggle along with German. Otherwise they tend to speak only English with you.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
As a student I would recommend to live in a dormitory with other students. You get a interesting social life and to a low cost.

Personal comments
The university makes a good job in finding rooms for exchange students, as long as you apply for one in good time. Standards vary among the rooms, but all are in good shape.
