If you would like to experience the Westcoast of the US and a good university there, it is definitely the place to be. I would strongly recommend it to everybody who is open minded and interested in getting to know a completely different environment and a lot of different people from all over the world. But this is not too much connected to the school, I'm sure all the other universities there offer the same great classes. I just liked the fact of being in a smaller city close to a really big city which gave me the chance to explore so much of the surroundings and the whole Westcoast.

I wish I would have had the chance to get my degree there and stay there ! I loved it a lot !
Travel as much as you can while you're there. Even the weekends are great for some short trips depending on your interest. It is soooo easy to meet people, try to meet as many interesting people as you can.

I would recommend to live on campus. You will quickly adjust and feel at home then.

When you get there try to know as much as people who is in the same program, cause they are in the same situation as you if you go by yourself, know them and you will find people who get along with you and may be you will live together, or study together, get involve with all the people from the program.

Overall
At this Cal State, teaching is the priority in ways the UC can't replicate. I have experienced small class sizes, mentorship with professors, and access to research resources that I did not expect from a Cal State. However, this comes at the price of impacted courses, underresourced support services, and heinous parking.
