Personal comments
As I study English in Germany and spent some time in England and Australia before, it wasn't about the language at all. I was pretty fluent when I came to Long Beach but after my stay I had completely lost my accent and American became my second language. I improved especially in the everyday slang terms and I believe that I also enhanced my vocabulary in general.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Is the best way to live in the US for me, you have your own rules instead of living on campus.

There´s a lot of accommodation at the university, you can live on campus or off campus and is even greater, ´cuz there´s a lot of student apartaments next campus and the transportation is free, there´s a little shuttle every hour around apartments.

I was more independent and I really liked to have a room for my own instead of sharing a room in the dorms. plus I lived close to the beach which was awesome....

The dorms are great to get to know people easily but as I said I prefer to have a room for my own in an apartment with others.

Downtown LA, specially Sunset Blvd., Santa Mónica, Huntington Beach. In Long Beach go to the Bistro Café, a little coffe shop, beer for 1 buck, and you gonna love it if you smoke...cigarettes, ´cuz you cannot smoke at any public place in California except at the Bistro.
