I wish I had known...
The only thing I regret is that I didnt study local language before. That would help me to find a job as without that ability it was almost impossible to find any.

I would never expect that studying at that university would be one of the best experience in my life. That includes among others education level, social life and travel opportunities.

What I find th emost important, students should try to learn Dutch before coming here. Furthermore, one has to be prepared to spend more money than he or she was used to before - good idea is to earn it before, as I did for example during summer holidays. A good opportunity to travel in Belgium is to buy Go Pass - 10 rides for only 45 euro. A city itself looks as if it was created for students-many students restaurants, libraries, sports facilities, cinemas, bars etc. There is simply no time to be bored.

My experience with Ghent University
Jonas V
Belgium,
Engineering, Electrical, 2024
Overall
The course program of my studies are very diversitile with a general focus on automation, electrical and general techniques and durable solutions. Labs and projects in team give you the oppertunity to excell your skills in a team. The lectureres do everything to share knowledge and experience. The engineering community is amazing with it's open minded students and professors.

In general Flamish people are not going to mix with Erasmus students except for interest to travel to your city for free. It is the experience of all my colleagues.

Belgium is a wonderful country. Flanders is one of the most beautiful regions to work, but there are others to study. If you want to improve your english knowledge, choose England or Ireland. For fun, choose Belgium. For studies, stay at home.

I wish I had known...
I wish I had thought of Gent as an opportunity to experience something different than an Anglosaxon country (the main destinations for Greek students). Had I been less prejudiced in the beginning, I would not have spent 3 months of my life in depression.

Use all the help available from the University people (Decanaat, administration, foreing students office, etc.). Ask for the help of locals, they are very polite and helpful. Walk around the city a lot; it´s the only way to become familiar with it. Fall in love: it suits the medieval atmosphere of Gent.

you can easily travel around Belgium with a Go-pass (10rides ticket): if you are under 26 it's handy and cheap. I would have liked to get more in contact with local people: they are just more "shy" than people I was accostumed to, but they are great - I wish I had discovered that earlier!

On scientific and academic cooperation in the context of political confrontation
europa u
Ukraine, Masters
, 2022
Overall
PROS: HISTORICAL ATTRACTIONS, SEVERAL FREE BONUSES, INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES, CHEAP FOOD, SEVERAL HONEST AND WARM PEOPLE.

CONS: SCIENTIFIC LEVEL MAY BE IMPROVED, EUROPEAN NATIONALISM, POLITICALLY MOTIVATED DECISIONS.

Full review: https://rentry.co/osaacitf

This review focuses on academic activities conducted by European educational institutions, universities and research institutions. Many universities, organizations and laboratories are active participants in the common space of academic scientific and educational cooperation. Some organizations provide funding, while others use grants for various collaborations, internships and research tasks. Leading European universities are actively involved in this process. Funding is also used to organize various events, conferences, lectures, seminars and schools for undergraduate and graduate students.

Various academic organizations, universities and research groups are currently receiving generous funding streams. Funds come from both government agencies and corporations and individuals. These are grants from governments and leaders of countries, government agencies, large corporations, as well as various benefactors.

An important goal of all this generous funding is to maintain a healthy scientific environment and develop cooperation between different countries, academics and universities both inside and outside the EU. It is important for academic organizations to maintain contacts with "good" countries that maintain friendly relations with the same political bloc. These are the EU, Great Britain, the United States, these are NATO member states and their allies. In addition, this academic environment successfully interacts with students and faculty from countries with high birth rates or large populations. These people today are happy to accept European values, preferences, ideas and priorities. For example, these are the regions of Hindustan, Asia and many other countries. In this context, various issues arise, such as academic, linguistic, political and ethical.
