Pay 1€ at least once to climb the 507 steps that make up the South tower of the Cathedral. The view is immense so take your camera. Your semester ticket is great for getting about the region you can go for miles on the train with it, including down to Bonn! Buying a bike would also be a good plan, you can take it one the trams and the city is flat as a pancake. Go to the Decksteiner Weiher for a peaceful evening walk if it all gets to much for you. (Catch the bus(146 i think) from Neumarkt opposite Mayersche bookstore.

Not to desperate with burocracy; it's really chaotic, but once you've everything done, you enjoy student life a lot.

The city has not lots of things to see, but it's quite nice and there're lots of students. If you have the opportunity, travel around, since connections from Cologne to other cities are very good (always cheaper if you go in a group!!)

Luca P
Germany, Graduate
Sociology, 2022
Overall
The University of Cologne is one of the top ranked Institutes of Germany, especially known for the its high position in the Social Research field.
My course of study, Sociology and Social Research, offers students the possibility to acquire skills in quantitative methods of research and expertise in the use of the main software for social research analysis such as  STATA, SPSS, or R.
The international profile of the University is one of the main pros of the Institute, creating an exciting environment where students could confront with different cultures and life experiences.

Be prepared for a city with all but churches and other exceptions stemming from after the war. City has little apparent charm.

My exchange here was hands down the best time of my life. Cologne is in the perfect location for travel and has the friendliest people in Germany. Night life is great and you never get bored. I recommend you get a bike, cycling around the city is great as it's so bike-friendly and flat. I simply had the best time ever. I LOVE COLOGNE <3
