Personal recommendation
I would recommend this university because it gives one an experience Spanish culture, politics and the future of Spain. This campus provides sports programs and other organizations that one can get involved in to interact with Spaniards.

Meet Spaniards! It is hard to meet them but they are really interesting to interact with. They are really well-rounded people who know a lot about current issues. Don't be surprised if they know something about your country that you did not. Like I said before, join organizations on campus and off to make Spanish friends. One more thing, if you are debating on going, just GO!!

Overall

Personal spending habits
At home, I tend to be pretty tight with my budget. I don't have the opportunity to travel as much, the nightlife isn't as exciting so I tend to spend wisely. Going to Spain, I KNEW my choices would be much more interesting, so I planned for that. However, the exchange rate was amazing & I ended up spending less than $2500 for the whole semester (i.e. food, entertainment, travel.) My trip to Mallorca was only $200 after all was said & done!

Personal comments
I liked using traveler's checks, waiting for a good exchange rate, and then cashing in large amounts. People who used their ATM cards didn't realize how much they were spending. However, with the EURO being in place now, it's easier to determine how much you're actually giving away.

If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?

Personal comments
It is pretty organized but it is just too expensive, $550 a month to live with a family which included 2 meals and laundry. I would have liked that option of living in an apartment with spanish speaking students as well. But I was lucky, I was definitely integrated into the family eventhough it was a business relationship.

It is fine to gather tips before you leave for another country, but don't rely too heavily on other's impressions of your new host country because your experiences will be totally different. It is best to have no expectations and welcome the many surprises.

The level of education you receive will depend on the amount of effort that you put out. This school gives a certain amount of independance that I didn't receive from my home campus. It was the best part of my college education and I want to go back to Spain for graduate school.
