because you have the chance to live in the center. never take the residential rooms on the campus, they are way to far from the center of madrid!!!!

Try to find a room in an apartement with native speakers and be aware of the location of the flat. In general the north of the city is better than the south, but the best parts of madrid to live are: huertas, la latina, malasana, chueca, thats mainly the center!

I like my independence, renting in Madrid is cheap compared to London so for reasonable rent you can get a room in a really good area; as I did.

The university provides no accommodation that I am aware of, neither was there any help offered when I was searching for a flat. I feel the university should have a specific housing office to help students find private accommodation, especially foreign students.

Living on the campus was a great experience as most exchange student generally hang out with other exchange students and end up knowing lots of people ... but noone from the host country !!! In the end of my period, since I knew a lot of Spanish people, I moved to an appartment, which was more comfortable.

The campus is far from the Univesity, so to enjoy living in the city you should rent a room. If with a family: no nightlife neither friends staying over.

they should arrange some kind of program to help to find accomodation for international students. It´s pretty scary to arrive to Madrid without any place to stay.

I would choose to live in an apartment/house because Universidad de Autonoma is slightly outside of Madrid. I prefer to rent privately because I would be able to choose a nice part of Madrid.

I can only say that places for housing at the university were limited and I had to find a place outside of university.

It's the best way to really know a foreign place, as there are few constraints, and that you can choose on your own the location.

In Madrid: there are many rooms to let in shared appartments, but you have to be patient if you look for quality. You have to look for a room on your own, and there's no service at university to help you. You may also have problems with appartment owners who want you to rent for at least 1 year. The good thing is that you can live in the best areas of the city center (and enjoy the best madrileña way of life) and go quite easily to the campus, as the public transportation system is excellent. On the campus: I didn't see the rooms, but I wouldn't like to live on that campus. The rooms are very expensive (more than in downtown Madrid), you have to share them with another student (unless your dad is a millionaire), it's quite far from any urban life (you can forget about any night life), no shops in the area (you have to take the train...), and living on a campus while being abroad is simply the best way to get depressed.
