McGill aka WORST University
Jamil
Canada, Graduate
, 2021
Overall
Literally by far the worst university I have studied. I'd have given -ve 5 stars if possible. As an international student, I was really happy when I was accepted in this university, then March this year we had a meeting with the faculty's registrar who said extension fees for international students would be 'a few hundred dollars', but I was shocked when I received a bill of $11k. On top of that, COVID happened and I lost my father, McGill in repeated emails addressed to all students said they would offer 'generous financial support' despite the huge amount of fees. I then applied for financial aid, and got a paltry sum of $3k , because of which I deferred my fees. Today, I received an email from them saying I owe them interest for the unpaid fees. I have been rendered homeless, and I think the only recourse for me would be to end my life. From an anonymous student.

They have very good network. the apartments or rooms are furnished, clean, very close to the university. the inconvenients are the high cost and the creation of a "student guetto"

I stayed with four 'locals' which was great in the sense that you get totally immersed into the culture and everyday life. There is a huge accommodation shortage in Montreal but if you are there in good time before Uni starts, your chances of getting a good place is pretty good.

I'm still here for two weeks, but till now i really enjoyed the thompson house at Mcgill and some of the bars at Saint-Laurent. This is one long street were a lot of bars and clubs are located. Besides this, eating in St-Denis in one of the bring-your-own-wine is really fun.

As Quebec is francophone, and McGill is a anglophone university, the academic and social experiences are very different. English works well within the city of Montreal, but in other parts of Quebec, french is needed for communication with the local population

Quite easy to find furnished appartments. Otherwise, look out for garage sales.
