most leases in Montreal start on July 1st, so it is quite difficult to find an apartment for someone arriving just before classes in August or September.

Housing
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: A room exchange
Why?
If you have time prior to the start of the exchange program to arrange a room exchange the chances are that you can get a good deal both financially and with a good overall quality, including the rental duration.

If you choose McGill in Montreal for your exchange studies, be aware that it can take time to find an accomodation in the beginning of the semester and that the university provides you with a web-based database where all people (not only students) in Montreal can put their housing ads. Visit www.mcgill.ca and find out more! However, the university doesn't actually own any student dormitories. They can only help you with information (ads, both ways) but you have to do your own search and call the people to arrange things.
