Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
The advantages of living on an anglo-saxon university campus are pretty straightforward: proximity learning facilities and availablity of supermarkets, banks or post office on site.

Personal comments
My personnal comments will not be of major relavance as the housing facilities have changed a lot, staring form when I graduated. Indeed, some important works, expansion and changes were made to the accomadation on campus last year.

Personal spending habits
There was no telephone, so it wasn't an issue. Food is very inexpensive at local markets. I spent more on travel just because I wanted to experience other areas, but local transportation is reasonably priced.

Personal comments
Since there's not a whole lot to do around Lancaster, you probably won't go thruogh your money too fast. There are some decent places to eat on-campus, and the local markets are really cheap.

Learning the academic vocabulary in English was the easiest. After a couple of months I had no problems anymore. The social vocabulary was longer to acquire: it can be difficult when you are with a group of English and you are the only foreigner. However, you get used to speaking with people from different origins (local and foreigners)and to understanding different sorts of accents in English. KEEP IN MIND that it is very easy to stay all the time with friends from your country (or speaking the same langauge as you) and to spend a year in the UK without improving your level of English.

The best advice is to make the most of the library where you can find all you need to graduate with a very good grade.

Personal comments
Erasmus students are placed with host families which means that they have to show responsibility when in the house. That's why their independence is very much constraint. If one is not happy with the host family he/she has the possibility to move into an appartment on campus after one month.
