My host family didn't speak any English, which was good for practicing Japanese... the majority of the international students never used Japanese, and since the majority of time is spent with other international students... this is not beneficial for developing language abilities (this is especially pronounced for those living in the dormitories on campus).

I can speak Japanese, so I speak Japanese for most of the time in order to practice my Japanese. I also speak English very often with Americans --- also did a language exchange program with some Japanese students to help them learning Chinese.

The housing was excellent except for the strict rules. It's hard to live like this if you lived by yourself before. But on the other hand this is the best way to meet new friends.
