Be warned that the Austrian dialekt is very different to the "hoch" Deutsch that we all learn in college. It will take a while to get used to the local dialekt but Austrians will always make a genuine effort to speak clearly to you so that you will understand.

They best places to go to in Linz would be the student pub, Lui's there is something going on there every night for erasmus students especially. The student home bars were great fun as well but if you ever go to Linz you have to go to the Mensafest!!!! To get a real good beer go to Josefs in the city, you will not regret your beer choice in that bar! There are few niteclubs in Linz but if you want to go clubbing go into the city (20 min by tram from the uni). You are always bound to have a good night with a few friends. If you are Irish and feel a bit homesick why not pay a vist to the Irish pub in the city, there are two Kitty kiernans and the Old Dubliner you will meet a few Irish in there!

Personal recommendation
It is a quiet University, not very beautiful. LAnguage learning is good and there is a very good International Office and International Society who look after Erasmus student. If you have a problem, talk to them.

Final comments
Best 4 months of my life. Unfortunately I didnt to much of the local Austrian people. They were a bit boring and dry. However, we made our own craic. Travel to border countries like Slovenia, Hungary and Slovakia. You won't be disappointed! Orgasmus Erasmus

Personal spending habits
We eat out more here because it's slightly cheaper than at home - a false economy, it seems! Spend more on travel because I travel a lot more. In fact it's actually cheaper than at home.

Housing
Type of housing: Halls of residence
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
You are treated like kids because of the silly Catholic rules that they have. In a flat I would have an oven in the kitchen.

The accomodation is okay itself for what we pay. It a bit big and there isn't a friendly atmosphere like at home in Scotland.

Academic
Course recommendations
make sure you assess the workload involved in certain MOdules before you choose to study them. Also, try not to pick a number of Block Courses that take place at the same time
