Being a student saves you a lot of money just by showing the student ID. Get a Bahncard if you intend to do a lot of train traveling outside Hessen.

Telephone - no contract phone. International calls are cheap to England. Food is cheaper but I eat more. Accomodation is about the same price as South London. Nightlife is cheaper but we go out more as there is nothing else to do! Travelling home is obviously more.

Food can either be quite expensive, or quite cheap in Germany, depending on what you do. Cheap supermarkets, like Plus or Aldi, are great. Some supermarkets are quite expensive. Same deal with restaurants? Don't go to McDonald's. I like the school Mensas; the food was always spectacular, but it was cheap, and afterall, there are only cafeterias?

While in my home country i lived by my parents. Food I didn´t have to buy. Telephone costs are less because phoning to home country is very expensive! Can´t afford that!
