Very good. Almost everyone spoke English and I could communicate with many in Polish as well. Both language were greatly improved. Polish classes were available.

Being at the university greatly improved my Polish. Although it is my native language I feel more comfortable with it after my overseas studies.

Krakow is an educated city and thus people knew English for the most part. You can get by without knowing Polish. To really learn the language, be sure to hang out with Polish speaking people and/or frequent the downtown area on your own to practice usage.
