Personal recommendation
At this university there are many international students as well as international lecturers. Sometimes it was not easy to understand them because of their accent.

Final comments
My host country offers many beautiful and interesting towns and places that are worth visiting. But you should consider that the weather is very unsettled. Sometimes it starts raining even though the sky was blue and the sun was shining.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Those houses builded with red bricks are just so typical! Moreover, the student halls of residence are a bit... gloomy. Saw them and didn't like. Also easier to organize parties!

Take care, the university was supposed to arrange something for me, but I received a mail, in July, saying that I finally had to search for something on my own!

Languages
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English
How much did you improve your English?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: At ease in most situations
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
I had a lot of international friends. For this reason, I couldn't improve my language skills that much as they all were no native speakers. I could only learn english at the university. That was quite a pity but the problem is that it is much more easier to get to know international students than people of the local community.

It is cheaper to live in a house than in halls. Additionally you have the chance to live with people from other countries and learn from them.

Exchange students coming in winter semester do not have the possibility to live in a hall. The university could do more to help students finding private accomodation.

“Review on University of Southampton”
Honor S
United Kingdom, Undergraduate
Language, 2018
Overall
The languages faculty in Southampton are an extremely close-knit, supportive group of teachers who offer their students plenty of academic as well as emotional support throughout their degree course. The actual course of study allow students to choose from a wide range of topics, helping them to develop not only their language proficiency but also their knowledge of the respective countries' culture, politics, history and current affairs. I also completed a year abroad in Freiburg, Germany during my studies and I received a lot of help and support from my uni in order to help me settle in comfortably to the new environment. Given a lot of preparation for year abroad help prior to leaving as well, with weekly lectures about how to deal with admin as well as guidance on the research projects we had to write whilst on our year abroad. Great experience at Southampton Uni.

I liked very much to live in a private accomodation with other foreign students. The halls of residence were not very nice either.

It was pretty hard to find an accomodation and university of Southampton didn't really help us to find an accomodation.
