“Great place for study”
LIU Y
China, Graduate
Journalism, 2014
Overall
It's a great university. It's a Russel Group Uni and renowned for its Students Union. And during my study, I've had access to great facilities, academics, services. My teachers and tutors were all supportive and friendly.
Sheffield is a multicultural town and a lovely place to live in. You can easily make friend with students and locals there.
The only pity I would say is that because I studied Global Journalism which is less practical than broadcasting and printing journalism, I had less opportunity to find a job or internship in Sheffield.

“Excellent university with first-class tutors”
Andree G
France, Graduate
Political Science, 2021
Overall
Covid-19 has limited me to review teaching content. I was offered places in several other universities and I do not regret going to Sheffield. During a difficult time, tutors have been excellent. The university has also given us mental health resources for lockdown while tutors have given students extra time during face to face hours. They also have extensive resources for job searches. My only point of contention is that the university did not put their courses online fully, making students unsure about what to do during breaks or if unable to come due to visa restrictions, etc.

Final comments
As accomodation I would suggest Endcliffe Vale Flats, there are some flats that are a bit old.... and just enjoy your year there, you may not have another year as good as the one you spend there. For me, it was the best year i've lived, in all fields (academic, personal...) I met great people who i'm still in contact with, I really felt I'd changed after being there.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
The best is to share an accomodation with other students, like that you have the spirit of the studies in UK

I was in a hall of Residence called Earnshaw, really good facilities : LAN Internet, Bar, Laundry Room. The bad point is if you want to work, it's quite hard because of all the freshers around ...

Languages
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
It was hard to communicate with English students because they seemed not to have interest in foreign students. Since we were plenty of internationals it was essential to speak English all the time. But unfortunately the improvement is not as good as communicating with native speakers would have been.

Personal comments
There are 3 kinds of accomodations : privated, houses or flats (5 people per flat), hall of residence (just a room). Houses and flats are much better because you live with other erasmus students.
