Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Life on the campus is easier when you first arrive in a country you don't know, lots of activities are organised by the hall of residence and this allows you to meet new people and usually to make good friends for the rest of the year.

I fixed my accomodation very easily thanks to the brochures the university sent me. Whenever I had a question I sent a mail to the accomodation office and I had the answer the next day. this is a very securing behaviour.
about the accomodation itself, if you don't want to have to cook, just choose a catering residence the meal are good, but you need to appreciate english food.

Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work
Personal spending habits
Food in england is very expensive if you want to eat properly so it is more expensive than in France. My phone bills were not so expensive because my friends and my familly phoned my back (4 times less expensive when you phone from France to England than from England to France). I spent more for the night life because I went out much more, but for the same amount of money you can drink much more in England. In Manchester night Clubs are not to expensive £4, so it is very tempting.
Paris-Manchester with airfrance cost you FF1280 or £125, so I had the same budget than last year I just had to manage it.

Go the first day for your bank account, forget Barclays they don't take exchange students because they are in England for only a year.

It is a good university, and Manchester is dominated by students, so there is a fantastic nightlife. The environment, though, is not that appealing.

At the end it depends on your personality and expectations prior to arrival, whether the Manchester experience was good or bad. But most people enjoyed it.
