If you don't try to meet English people and you just go out and be with people who speak your language you are not going to learn anything. You must try to be with English people and don't be shy.

I could speak before going there, so it was a great opportunity to improve and learn many new things.It was also interesting learning to understand many different accents of spoken english

Geordies do have a pretty strong accent, close to the Scottish one. Their slang is very tough too. But you get used to it and teachers and students usually are not from the area.

i improved a lot in my spoken english and i had no problems in understanding English people.however,i found quite difficult to understand the accent of the local people(gordy accent)at the beginning.even my English friends found it quite hard!

Language is not at all a problem while at University but found a little difficulty when speaking to local people as their accent is different

The accent in Newcastle is very difficult to understand but there was no problem to understand the university classes
