Chicago is close and in my opinion the best city in the US. To the south there´s St. Louis, which has some good Blues and Jazz Bars. You should also visit the Amish people in the West of the school and you should definitely spend a day at the lakes...
i travelled a lot and i went out more often than i did at home. you can certainly do it cheaper, but maybe it's not that fun...

most books turned out to be unnecessary, but teachers will tell you you absolutely need them... difficult, because you can never tell. surprise: yes, you pay fees and they're about 450USD. be prepared.

it is hard enough to write all final exams within a few days. instructors should think about changing the due dates for term papers and (final) presentations. it is almost impossible to get sleep if these obligations add to the final exams.
