Helsinki is a very good city for a foreign student. It is the capital and at the same time not too big, you don't get lost. So for people wanting to live in the city and having the nature nearby that is the place to go. The winter is cold but you find easily things to do to enjoy it! Finnish people at the ESN network did a really great job to organise events and to make us feel at home.

The IBL program at Uni of Helsinki is very well structured. One finishes most of the courses in the 1st year and in the second year, you are free to pursue your internships or focus only on master's thesis. The teachers are good and the administrative staff is very prompt and helpful. Wide range of courses to select from. You can choose language studies and club it with your course credits. They have JOO services through which you can take courses from other universities and the credits will added to your IBL program. Student life is good, many activities take place which a student can benefit from.

University of Helsinki - high level of education offered
Konsta V
Finland, Graduate
Humanities, 2021
Overall
I have studied in the Asian studies programme in University of Helsinki and graduated as Bachelor of Arts in 2020. Now I am doing master's course in Area and Cultural Studies.

My studies have included courses about politics and economy of China and Japan, as well as culture and history. Japanese language teaching is of the highest quality, and we have native teachers from 3rd course onwards, speaking only Japanese in class. My minor studies have included political science studies and development studies, with some development economics studies as well.

Pros
Good level of teaching, especially Japanese language
Cons
Recently government's austerity policies have cut resources, so not as many courses available compared to 4 years ago.
