That is not completely impossible to get a nice job, if you talk to the right people... (I worked at McDonald's and in an Italian restaurant)

Learn the language, be open-minded, choose your courses carefully (you can drop them afterwards but you can't start new ones!)

Living there with not too much money will teach you how to survive in non-ordinary conditions. You'll experience that you can have a lot of fun even if you don't move a lot from home, and that you can eat decent food spending less than you thought. Travelling may be very expensive (especially because if you buy a bike - it can be very cheap, like 50€ - you won't be able to use it from november to april...), but if you wanna travel across Norway and Scandinavia, use some bus companies like www.lavprisekspressen.no or www.swebus.com, you'll be shocked at seeing how cheap they can be. The websites are in Norwegian/Swedish only, so remember what I said about the local language...!

As an international student, you can attend norwegian course for free at the liguistic department. And in winter time, do remember to rent ski equipment from Blindern Athletica and enjoy the winter sports!

Although you can survive without norwegian, it would definitely be better if you pick up the language.

of course i have no idea how this university is during a normal schoolyear, i only took a summer course, but i meet incredible people over there, from 98 different countries; I made some really really good friends for life. It was almost too good to be true inmany ways. I had the time of my life, and i think about it very very often. This was my third study experience abroad, and although the shortest one, it was definitely the best one!

I wouldn«t. With 40,000 students it«s easy to be very lost in the crowd although lots of internationals are very close and I know of lots of people who are going to stay. After studying in Edinburgh, Oslo is a wasteland and I just wanted to go back but thats just me. However, the location is great if you like mountains, fjords and lakes, it«s always easy to get out into the forests and thers nowhere better for winter sports on your doorstep.

“I am staying in Georgia while studying at the University of Oslo remotely.”

I am interested in literature and linguistics, my favorite writer Henrik Ibsen was Norwegian. My lecturer Giuliano Damico says that I am the only person he knows who learned Norwegian due to Henrik Ibsen, although, it is not so unique famous British writer James Joyce learned the Norwegian language for the same reason. I have studied on campus in Oslo for two months and it was amazing, now studying remotely which is not the same, however, they still provide a very high academic level, anyway, I am pretty sure that Uio is the best place in the world to study Ibsen.

“Quality teaching and variety of courses”

The campus at Blindern is very beautiful, full of places to eat, study, or simply meet with friends. The courses offered are varied and very interesting, useful and with a complete curriculum. The teachers are dedicated and offer personalized attention despite the students in a class being very numerous. The books are very expensive but can be found second hand in Facebook or in the university library. UiO offers a lot of services like printing for free, or working at the student bars/cafes as a volunteer. The courses are very broad and long so you will need to read a lot, but the exams are fair and the subjects interesting.
