I have graduated from Economics and Business faculty and therefore had Economics and Business related courses, such as Human Resources Management, Marketing and Strategy, Psychology, Micro and Macro Economics, Maths, Stats, Econometrics, Money and Banking, Finance, Accounting, International Money, Corporate Law, Organization and Management, E-business and etc. All of the courses were taught at very high level and I enjoyed staying in a community of people from overall the world

Use budget airlines, if using international trains book them approx. 3 months in advance so you can get student discounts, buy at Lidl, Aldi or Dirk supermarkets which are the cheapest, buy a bike because it's very handy and economic.

I wished I knew a little bit more about the history of the country itself. Although it became apparent once i started meeting and interacting with the people there, I could have had time to learn more if I had already the basic knowledge of the history/culture of netherlands.

Just don't expect anything. Let yourself explore the city/university with a fresh palate.

Travel a lot(plan your travel in advance), get to meet the local people, sit in a bar, sit in the main library complex..and let yourself enjoy the canals, streets, bikes, sights and sounds of amsterdam!

I think that living abroad is an experience everybody should have, especially if you want to work in communication areas (this is my case). It helps you in endless ways. But it is also true that if you are not used to travelling around you can feel a bit lonely at first, you miss many things and every common situation looks harder than it is really. Anyway, this feeling vanishes soon (I hope) for almost everybody.

recommendation is to study Dutch in order to get to know the culture of the country you live in and to obtain a real "European experience"
