Corporate language of Universiteit Maastricht is English. No problem to communicate with Dutch university staff or with locals in general. Every Dutch seems to speak English perfectly.

Difficult to get an opportunity to speak Dutch, since the Dutch themselves are mostly all fluent in English and usually two or three other languages as well. Good for them, but bad for my Dutch language ability.

I was somewhat disappointed that it was not mandatory to learn Dutch. Even though all classes were taught in English I really think we should have been mandated to at least try to speak the country's language.
