The 'Batiment A' where most Erasmus students are placed is truly dire, nothing could be worse than this accomodation. The University continues to claim that this building is in its "last year" but to the best of my knowledge it continues to exist.

Dire, truly horrific. Shared toilets for males and females. Only two working toilets for a floor of 40 students, and similarly one very small kitchen for 40 rooms. 1 washing machine and 1 dryer for the c.a. 160 students in the hall. Security very poor, one of the ressidents was running a barbour shop in the common room with 'clients' coming from other parts of town for a haircut. Atomosphere at night very intimidating with serious concerns for female ressidents. Random males would regularly knock on girls doors late in the evening claiming to have met at some previous time.

The location of the campus was very near to classes but isolated from other amenities such as shops and leisure activites. The security on campus was non-existant and it was badly needed. Living on campus made it very difficult to meet French people who mostly lived closer to the city centre.

Having spent two years on campus in Ireland I was very disappointed with what I found were my living arrangements on the Mulhouse campus. The dorms were open for anyone to walk in off the street and I felt very unsafe as a result. There was no security and no facilites. On my floor 40 people-guys and girls had to share 3 toilets and 3 showers. There was one washing machine and one TV for a building of 160 people. The building was up on a badly-lit hill isolated from any shops or even a bus route.

So that I didn't have to share the toilets and kitchen with so many people.

The building where I was placed, Batiment C, is very inexpensive (about €140 / mth, and less if you have help from the CAF), but there are only about 3 toilets and 1 kitchen for every 40 rooms, which isn't ideal. Still, all rooms have internet access, which proved very useful.

I was disapponted when I fisrt arrived as it is very basic and not like student accomodation at home, but it soon becomes home.
