An ERASMUS grant
Other sources of funding:
Personal savings
Government assistance
A private grant
Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience
Personal spending habits
Needing a metro pass because I was in a big city, but in general Paris was much cheaper than Oxford. Spent more on telephoning because I had to call back to the UK, but then now I probably spend as much on calls to Europe!

Personal comments
French mobile phones (pay as your go calls) cost a bomb. Get an SFR abonnement for 6 months BUT DON'T FORGET TO CANCEL IT AT LEAST ONE MONTH BEFORE LEAVING. The process is complicated.
You have to pay to see the Doctor up front. Can be very expensive. EU students should have an E128 form, you can then claim back 3/4 of costs. Keep the barcodes on any medication prescribed and all documents given by doctors and pharmacists for this purpose.
