Personal spending habits
The reason why I spent less on food is that this is generally cheaper than back home. My telephone bill also was reduced, mainly because most of the students found it a bit hard to speak German in the telephone. Accomodation is quite expensive in Cologne, especially when you want to live close to everything which I did. I also spent a lot on travelling because there is a lot to see in the middle of Europe.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: A room exchange
Why?
Didn't get to see how germans live, no proper integration. You need to live with foreigners to understand their way of life.

Rubbish!!! Don't depend on anything provided by Studentenwerk. No chance of getting something. Try to organise exchange with germans leaving uni to go on exchange so you can just take over each others rooms. Means less hassle for moving your stuff and you have a bed when you return.

Academic
Course recommendations
The strategic courses I followed where really great. Also the course on Fast Moving Consumer Goods, which was facilitated by Henkel, was interesting. Further there was a german course on e-commerce which was really good.

Personal spending habits
I spent more on accomodation because the school did not find a place for me in a campus, but a room in an appartment, which is normally more expensive. The food is cheaper in Germany then in Denmark. The phone expenses were lower then in Denmark, as I used no mobile phone while I lived in Germany. The train prices are similar to Denmark, so i spent the same amount on travelling.

Everything is very well arranged by the CEMS/PIM club. You will have a lot of fun and partying and the people living in Cologne are very friendly and open.

Berlin and Bonn are nice cities to visit. If you go to Berlin you at least have to stay there for 4 days. Some friends of mine went ot the October Feste in Munich and that was quite fun (you have to like apres skiing to like this!). Other nice cities to visit are Heidelberg and Trier.

Bring or buy a bike; make sure you live in the university area or inner city; try to live in a students appartment; go out a lot, the nightlife is great; do a CEMS business project in German; go atleast to Muenchen and Berlin, but travel more when possible; make German friends, not only ex-change students; buy a prepaid cellphone card!
