There were problems with understanding Swiss German, despite my proficiency in German, that impeded unconstrained communication with the local people. But after working with regular students in a group, I could pretty well understand Swiss German.

I wish I had known...
I had a lot of info about St.Gallen before chosing it. Would there be one thing, I might have chosen to arrive one week earlier in order to settle more conveniently and arrange things before the academic semester started.

Local night events were mostly organised by CEMS buddies. Others by exchange students, up till now I do not have any special place I would really recommend. The degustation part at the OLMA fair was pretty good, but that is during the day.

Don't miss the first introductory week - the time and the place to get new contacts and friends. Pub crawl was perfect to find out more about the town and get acquainted with other people as well from the exchange, as from outside.

It was five years since I last spoke a word of german so this is a great opportunity to learn. As it has turned out, you learn alot of phrases that are very useful in everyday that you would never learn in school.
