It is not a stressfull year. Use it to your advantage; travel, meet new people. If you do you will make the most of the year and have a ball.

Most of the ameneties needed for my accomodation for example bed linen and kitchen utensils were provided, so i was required to take any of my own items in these fields.

Was a very friendly environment and fellow students are extremely willing to help you find your feet and help out where needed. Was made to feel integrated and at home.

The one downfall is that other students are very eager to gain english practice by talking to you in English, and this can be a negative experience if it means that you dont gain the German language practice, this can be made into a positive experience if it is a two way learning experience. If looking for an extra source of income, there is always opportunity to give paid English lessons either privately or at institutions in the city. You must make sure that your health insurance is organised before leaving your native country otherwise this can cause problems on arrival as you need it to be able to register at the university.

I wish I had known...
Nothing I would really add here. I think learning the "system" and how to function in it is a better experience for people, than to try and study up on every possible situation that could arise in a foreign country. This helped me build confidence about my life here, that you can learn, figure things out, on your own. Everything will really be ok.

University should enforce class meeting times with teachers. A couple of teachers would change class meetings around to suit their personal needs, demanding students come to either a weekend of intense seminars (not a part of the original course listing), or to schedule two class meetings in one day.

Perfect. The teachers and all administrative assistants were helping the students. All people were friendly.

When someone is going abroad, should not miss the opportunity to travel as much as possible. Traveling helps in learning the local habits, new places and cultures. Foreigners should not be afraid of asking for help!

“Very demanding but motivating”

Overall
The campus is very nicely structured. Most of the lectures are on the main (north) campus. Every lecture theater is in walking distance. Students are very friendly and teachers nice and helpful. Classes are most of the time quite small, so you get to know everyone very quickly.
The level is pretty high but it is very motivating too. I like to study here and would recommend it to anyone who thinks about joining TU Dortmund.

“Quaint University with excellent staff”

Overall
This university is excellent. There is a high academic level paired with rigor. The staff and the professors are hard-working, and will usually help students. However, class sizes are very large. If you prefer small classes, this is not the place for you.
Also the Ruhrgebiet area of Germany can be ugly at times.
