My language abilities improved greatly during the year; this was mostly due to the fact that I lived with italians who helped me greatly. The university also offered a very good language instruction course.

Living in Italy is definitely THE best way to improve your Italian skills. It can be challenging at first wit the wide variety of dialects etc, but given time the language isn't too difficult to master.

Make sure you do take the opportunity to travel. Italian bureaucracy can be hard to navigate at times. Bring all important documentation with you, so that you are prepared.
