Communication with other students was the main way I learnt the language. Lectures were useful for picking up technical language but did not give you much opportunity for speaking. It was useful to have to organise 'carte de sejour' and other administrative documents. Beig in a university with so many Erasmus students made it all the more hard to find peolpe to speak french to as English quickly became the common language. It was worth joining a few sports clubs alone to meet french people.

Certainly improved whilst I was out there, but I found it difficult to integrate with the french students. I found myself speaking french with the other foreign students, but by doing this they would not correct my mistakes. Also they continually insisted that I help them learn my language rather than the local.

it was very interesting to me and i think that it is usefull also to have the oportunity of studying in France.i'm stil studyng here and i hope that this thing will cange my life in a better way!i learn neaw things and i like it very much!

V difficult to speak french outside of university as lived with english people. French students were not very friendly and therefore did not speak with them either

I have not learned a lot of new technical words/expressions but a lot in "everyday language" and how to use language in a French University

Well, it wasn't quite as bad as I just made out (I didn't forget the entire language!), I think I just expected to learn more from being in France, having studied it for 9 years. As I said, most of us didn't make a lot of French friends, and when I got wrong numbers from people, I rarely understood much. (Not really relevant, but, like me, you might receive several wrong numbers on your mobile in France, something that never happened to me in Britain. I think it's because the French get mixed up between 60s/70s and 80s/90s when telling people phone numbers)
