Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why?
As I have already lived in a dorm on campus with other students together in one apartment, it would be nice to experience family life as well.

Most of the dorms are on campus; security staff takes care of unauthorized visitors. The dorms are divided into apartment in which guest students live togehter with home students. I liked that very much, therefore I had a lot of contact to Mexicans and their culture. Of course, it was very good to improve my Spanish skills. In addition there are several occasions organized such as Welcome Party, Soccer championship, Dinner Parties, etc. All in all it is very easy to built up personal contact to other students as well to staff members.

The dormitories were in a great location and they were quite modern. I was in a 4 bedroom apartment style dormitory sharing with 8 females. There was a full kitchen and lounge room. UDLA makes an effort to place foreign students in rooms with locals. It is a good idea.

Living outside the somewhat sheltered university campus enabled me to experience the Mexican way of life to a much fuller extent.

I didn't live on campus, but the accommodation there seemed very impressive - extremely modern, clean and attractive. There was plenty of cheap, reasonable accomodation available to rent in the town for those, like myself, who preferred to live off campus.

Better to learn the culture and language when you live with a family.

I prefer to live with a family because when I studied in Maastricht, it was difficult to learn of Dutch culture and language when you are not interacting with them.

You'll have a lot more freedom in your own apartment. Fortuntely I got along with my Mexican room mates really well. There were 7 of them in total. The washer/dryer was great to have, even if extravagant. There was also a biweekly maid service.

The housing is really nice, if more expensive than private accommodation. Living in the university halls was a good way to make Mexican friends.
