You have to travel a lot, and as Salamanca is situated right in the middle of Spain, it is very easy and cheap to see great parts of Spain and Portugal

that getting accomm before is not essential as its so easy to acquire when you arrive throuhg adverts posted everywhere. and this means you can get a shared flat which works out much cheaper than living alone and is great for meeting new people.

make use of the great bus services from salamanca to madrid and vice versa for getting there and getting back to the airport in madrid. there are also great services to other parts of spain which you should make use of to do some travelling in your spare time!

You need a lot of pacience - things need more time but they work out more or less. This refers to the organisation of the university as well as sometimes to the waiters in the whole country.

In Salamanca almost nothing is provided by the university but the private sector does a good job here: it seems that the students, especially the exchange students maintain the economic stability of this small town. Most locals seem to advantage from the students some how: bars, restaurants, rent apartments, internet cafes etc. This makes Salamanca a strange place to live. If you want to experience the best student life, go there, but if you want to live in a real Spanish city, go elsewhere.

It is the warmest, most welcoming school I've ever attended. Plus, the campus is amazing. Where else can you learn about Spanish literature in a 1200 building?

Don't over-do it. Spain can overwhelm you. Spaniards never seem to sleep and it's easy to get caught up in the vibrancy of it all. Be sure to explore the places off the beaten path, those are the ones that will make your trip. In Spain, University really should just be secondary to studing culture so if you're there only for academics, it might not be the place for you.

A helpful advice: do not rent a room before you get to know the city and learn what the best location is for you. I rent a place from Brazil and, after I arrived, realised it was too far from my campus and Spanish course and had to move. Moving was a choice of course, but I think it was the right one. In a small city such as this, you'll want to take advantage of the fact you don't need to take a bus everywhere and actually walk everywhere you need.
