The alhambra, of course, and the sight of it at the Mirador de san nicolas! incredible! the cinema "granada 10", which becomes night club after the movie-time, has an opera-style interior, golden sofas, and you can have your drink while looking at the film (it really doesn't matter what film you see at this cinema, the location itself is worth a visit! la taberna, a little cafe, best tapas in town (although i think they changed them now, but still..)the street with the "teterías", where you can have your tea in oriental atmoshpere while smoking an waterpipe. la plaza nueva, watch out for hundreds of students doing the traditional "botellón", a kind of "get-your-botlle-and drink-in-the-streets-socializing-event" every thursday, friday and saturday night..great experience...and so much more..

There are two main streets for going out on, Calle Pedro Antonio de Alarcon at one end of the city and Calle Elvira at the upper end. Both are full of little bars and during the weeks reps from the bars stand on the streets and give out free drinks vouchers. There aren't too many night clubs but most bars stay open till the wee hours anyway. Granada is quite small so most places are never more than a 15minute walk away. A great night spot is the bull ring - Plaza de Toros - which has great bars and clubs around it.
For a quieter evening, i recommend going for tapas, most bars offer them free with your drink and it's a great way to have a cheap dinner! Granada is a great place for fun and night life. Enjoy!

The best place for a botellon is always changing now. Nice places for tapas around Plaza de Toros and Calle Elvira. Best bars along Paseo de los Tristes (gay bars there too). Best clubs got to be Planta Baja and Sala Principe. Don't expect hip music, though! Find out about the ferrias and get to all of them - Cadiz, Xerez (la ciudad sin ley), Cordoba, Granada. Don't go home for easter - I took a trip to Cadiz coast and shot to Seville for a few processions and loved it. Gaditanos are the friendliest people in Spain. Trips to Alicante, Valencia, Barca, Madrid are all worth the crazy bus journeys. Guys join a "TUNA" its mad.

The best times I had were the botellones in someones house or in placeta somewhere - la Plaza de la Cebolla, close to the Jardines del Triunfo, is my favorite, always full of students, guitars, hippies, dogs...Granada in its essence. My tw favorite bars are la Estrella, close to Plaza Isabel la Catolica, and el Peatón, just off Pedro Antonio. They're more alternative than places like el Flautista and Dulce Vita, more relaxed, and i preferred the music. Cool cafés are el Tren, in Puentezuelas, and La Bohemia, just off Puentezuelas. Great ambiance in both.

Try and refrain from going to all the typical places were English students gather. In Granada, you are really spoiled for choice.
The caves in Sacromonte are a must see as the night unfolds inside a cave. In Granada you have tons of bars which with the purchase of one drink you get a free tapa. Delicious.
My local cafe in Calle Arabial was fantastic, friendly people, yummy food, typically Spanish.
However, the best place by far is a bar called, La Mancha. Small, rustic Spanish bar, with lots of locals, servicing fantastic wines, beers and food.

The center has a lot of night spots but if you get to know the spanish people they will show you more amazing places outside of the city center. Through the school, ASEE, you can sign up to get emails for many activities that take place during the semester. Its a great way to meet students but also remember to mix with the locals to learn spanish in the best posible way! Remember not to hang out with people that come from diferent countries than yourself to get the most out of your experience with new cultures.
