Logement
Type de logement: Appartement/maison
Organisé par: Indépendant - seul choix possible
Si j'y retournais je choisirais: Appartement/maison
Pourquoi?
I was able to find an apartment living with 3 native girls who helped me out and gave me a lot of incite into the culture. But I didnt feel as restricted as I might have in a host family.

there were some dorm facilities but they were mostly for younger first year students. They also tended to be private and more expensive.

Living with a host family has its benefits but it is also nice to live in how you wish, for example being able to cook your own meals.

The housing was not affiliated with the host university, but with my home university. Living with a family was a good experience, especially for my first time abroad.

The easiest way to find accomodation is through announcement on telephone cells. In general the housing standard is lower, above all in flats for students. But it's sure that you will find something appropriate.

After 3 years of having to do everything myself (cooking, cleaning, shopping etc.) it is quite nice to take a break and have it all done for you. Plus when you arrive in the middle of the academic year to a new city it is not always easy to make new friends. So going to a residence where there are other students always helps.

The university does not help you look for accommodation. If you do not want to end up in a dump you'd better make sure you visit the flats/rooms before moving in. It is not difficult to find a flat, look out for ads on phone boxes.

I moved from the host family after 2 weeks because they were too involved; I felt like a 12 year-old and didn´t have freedom to come and go as I wanted.

The exchange program didn´t exist. I was told to go to Granada and that was it. The courses were extremely difficult and the professors did not care about helping. It was as if I were graded as a native, and there were no language courses given to better my situation- the whole reason for going to Spain resulted in an awful graduating college transcript. I suffered through months of not understanding, meanwhile nearly failing classes and I was an A student in the USA. It was a "program" that didn´t exist. I went to the Int´l office and they had nothing to say. I was told to be flexible before my departure, but then when I started having problems no one could be flexible and help me. It was a very dificult experience that has resulted in a huge blemish on my college transcript forever.

there is no on-campus accomodation as the university is spread all over the city, the many students live in apartments and with a large percentage live in "residencias" which are usually single sex and quite strict. There is no problem finding your own accomodation as all through the summer and most of the year in fact there are notices put up all over the city, on every wall and in every phone box advertising rooms and apartments for rent.
