Course recommendations
All the classes are small (max 30 persons). This makes a good atmosphere and a good dialog with the theachers and among students.

Personal comments
Everything depends on what subjects I took. I specially liked how my programming course (C++) was organized. A good class: -has a good theacher -has essays and projects in groups and individually a few times each semester -is theached with creativity: It means disussions of different cases, quizes, TV, ineractive media shows etc UCR could be better in some of this aspects!!

Course recommendations
There are only a few courses offered every semester - all of them hands-on. Classes take place in the rainforest, on boats, visiting villages, observing birds, catching butterflies, interviewing people - it's an amazing way to learn! You have to be willing to sweat a bit, but it's absolutely worth it!

The Spanish classes could have been better - but perhaps they have improved since I was there.

Housing
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why?
This is the only option in Golfito. Finding an apartment on your own would be difficult and the conditions might not be the best. The families who host exchange students usually live in the nicest/safest area of town.

Living with a host family was an amazing experience - I highly recommend it to anyone studying abroad! This is the best way to fully immerse yourself in a country/culture, understand the people, and learn a language as well!

I wish I had known...
costa rica is quite americanized, watch out for big macs, but other than that, watch the news daily and talk about futbol, and you will get along just fine
