Try to get involved. I volunteered with the college radio and with IPADE, a human rights NGO. It helps to meet more Spaniards and better your language skills. Too many Americans stuck with other Americans and never really learned the language.

if you looking for a flat/room to share take the "segunda mano". flights to the canarian islands are extremly cheap(iberia 100eu), amazing islands, landscapes and culture!
