I wish I had known...
The cost of living in an apartment was so much cheaper and being an exchange student doesn't require a 6000k instead you can enroll in the University for a fraction of that cost!

Try to get more of the spanish students involved with the language program so that we can meet more of them.

Don't overpack, bring peanut butter and a strip of carpet, don't buy the telephone card that has a little gold square on the right upperhand corner to call to the US instead go to Sol in one of those kisko for $13 card that gives you sooo many more minutes, go to a travel agent for great travel packages, wake up early even if it hard, put yourself in awkward situtations so that you can learn more about yourself, avoid subway and mcdonalds so that you can try the palle (if you loose too much weight because you can't find anything you like, the ham and cheese is a great alternative).

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I think, I would have preferred to live in my favorite barrio in Madrid, which is Malasaña. It´s really cheap and you get some nice flats, plus there are so many cool shops and bars within walking distance from your doorstep. Although the area I lived in was pretty cool and close to school.

Personal comments
Well the University of Madrid is the biggest University of Spain. So most students live in flats off campus. It can be tough searching for a flat, especially when your not quite native in the language and your not quite familiar with the area in which you want to live in. But with time and patience you can find one that is inexpensive and nice. But it´s best to look before other students arrive in the season, because it becomes much more difficult after that. And some owners, don´t feel confident in renting to international students.
