Honestly, i thought i would talk better spanish than i do. I did improve my level though. In my dreams, i would live with 5 or 6 people from everywhere and we would only be able to communicate in Spanish. The thing is: easier to say, harder to find. I mean i do not regret one thing about my experience except only having more roommates would have been awesome!! But anyway, i lived with 2 american girls and one french guy. We had the most amazing time ever. It just sucked a little bit because we had big plans about talking spanish in the house, etc. and obviously we ended up talking pretty much only english. What is still really good. Just not exactly what you would expect when going to Spain! Basically most of our friends were English speaking! A few were spanish, but weren't the ones we saw most of the time. I don't know what else to say. I guess everybody has is own experience. Mine wasn't the best one to actually learn the host country language, but will still be one of my "bestest" memories/experience ever.

Don't expect miracles from this uni. It's a just a big, public, not very pretty place to study. If you need a super high-tech uni with a huge modern campus, look somewhere else.

It is different from German universities, so you should contact native students.

Although it might not be that comfortable you should organize accomodation yourself accomodation organized by the university often is situated outside Barcelona where I personally would feel quite lonely. But this certainly depends on the people you live with. I lived in Cerdanyola, a small town near the University, and I wasn't lucky at all. If I were to go back I would certainly choose to live in Barcelona although this means about 1,5 hours of travelling a day to go to and to return from classes at University.

I would have been helpful to know that there weren't any kitchen utensils or blankets in the residence.

The language courses offered by the Serveis D'idioms Mondernas (SIM) of the university (UAB)are recommendable and cheaper for Erasmus students! Erasmus students don't have to pay anything for the catalan courses. You have the possibility to attend a course before university start, that means that you have to be there at the beginning of september!

I would recommend to start the stay abroad before university starts, so you can manage everthing you have to manage and get yourself used to the new situation. Use the bus system and if you are going to live in the residence of the UAB, choose a native speaker as room mate!

I had to look for a place by myself, so I cannot give any opinion on housing at this university; anyway I suggest to everybody who wants to go to the UAB not to choose housing in the campus because is far from the city (barcelona) and you would not enjoy living in one of the most beautiful cities in the world
