So transfer your money through the internet to your local account (it was free from my country) and pay your bills via internet (if you can't do it yourself ask a swedish friend), since you pay a tax if you go to the post office or bank. If you plan on using the buses/subway a lot, buy the month pass.

Traveller Checks are a thing of the past! All you need to live in stockholm (and travel throughout western and eastern europe) is an american bank account and ATM card. And European ATMs don't charge fees!

if you are not a drinker, or if you don't drink too much, you can save half of the money! if you go to night culbs before 22.00, it's usually free entrance and you can listen to great concerts without spending one krona!

Virtual impossibility of opening a simple bank account at any Swedish Bank without a Swedish "Personal Number"!! Very inflexible at times in administration towards foreigners!!!
