Personal recommendation
I would recommend this university. Class sizes are small and all teachers are native speakers of Russian. I took classes in language, literature, film, history and current events. The university arranges trips to other parts of Russia. Every week we went on an excursion with our teacher, usually to a museum.

Russian student cards get you discounts on nearly everything, from theatre tickets to train tickets. ISIC cards will get you discounts or free admission in museums, etc.

Currently, I am studying at St. Petersburg State University and working on my master's thesis.

Russia, Graduate
International Relations, 2020
Overall
There are different courses at the University, which are 100 percent conducted in English or Russian, or 50/50 in two languages. So I think every student, whether they are local or foreign, will find a suitable program for themselves.
Both the University and the city are steeped in history. The University itself belongs to one of the oldest, classical universities. For example, my faculty of international relations is located in the building of Smolny Cathedral, which was built in the 18th century by the famous architect Francesco Rastrell by order of the Russian Empress Elizabeth. Part of the Cathedral served as an Institute for girls.  All this gives the feeling that every day you find yourself in the middle ages-Imperial Russia.

Graduated fully prepared for the life
Maria V
Russia, Graduate
Social Sciences, 2015
Overall
St.Petersburg State University is one of the two highest-rated universities in Russia. The teachers all qualified, and since I studied Social Sciences, they don't give you the theory in the class, but most of the time you spend in learning in practice. The University has different abroad programs which help initiative and performing students visit universities and colleges in other countries. Back in 2014, I took a month of Social Sciences in Frederick, MD, the US.

A lot of students come from different regions of Russia, and they all can live in one of three big campuses. Though, since it's a famous and old University with a reputation, the competition for admission to University is very high.

I've spent 4 years getting my bachelor's degree and then two more years to get my Master's with distinction.

Studies as an chance to communicate with the world
Sofi D
Russia, Graduate
European Studies, 2023
Overall
The studying process at the St. State University provided me with a chance to get an international education. Being a Master student of the sociological programm "European Studies" I managed to collaborate and communicate with the professors from Germany, Switzerland, Italy, China and France. This opportunity gave me the chance to explore the disciplines from various points of views and develop a personal understanding of the global issues. Moreover, the collaboration with international students contributed to the development of my soft and hard skills. Such skills as open-mindness to different stuying approaches, ability to work successfully  in international  environment, responsibility and time-management were developed through  communication and collaboration with students from various ethnic backgrounds.

There are so many that I suggest you e-mail me. Basic ones would include PATIENCE with any bureaucracy - dont think you can ignore it either!! TOUGH SKIN in the face of abuse from Russians - on the street, at the market, in uni, on the metro - just stare steely eyed right back at them!
