The mentioned categories are cheaper than in the UK. Travelling around the city is very cheap, trains are also cheaper if you want to go to Moscow, but the rest, such as flights, are the same! HOusing is cheaper, but also depends on the quality you are looking for. NIghtlife is not cheap, but deffinitely cheaper than in the UK. Food is very bad quality, but not cheap.

Organize your costs. Take two weeks as a test period. The main expences are on food and nightlife. Forget about shopping; it is a rip off for brands, and the rest is russain domestic production!

About visa complications, be very careful. Your passport will be taken away from you for a long period of time and you need an exit visa to leave the country!

Be very careful with your papers, documents and visas. It can be a great problem in Russia. Also, you can bribe almost everybody, but be careful about the sums, they ccan ask a lot! EXIT VISA, and leaving the country dates!!

There are so many that I suggest you e-mail me. Basic ones would include PATIENCE with any bureaucracy - dont think you can ignore it either!!
TOUGH SKIN in the face of abuse from Russians - on the street, at the market, in uni, on the metro - just stare steely eyed right back at them!
