Especially in Vancouver there are a lot of immigrants and international students so people with English as a second language are more the rule than the exception

I had no problems because I am a native english speaker, but since Vancouver has a enormous Chinatown I found I had problems understanding the asian influence within the city.

I had the opportunity to further develop my language skills. As my language of instruction in my home university is english too I had no problems in communication.
