I have attended Saint Mary’s University for 3 years and I have spent over 30,000$ on my education at this campus, earned nearly perfect grades and attendance. During this time, I have never participated in any discrimination or stigma of any kind. Regardless of this I have faced an enormous amount of discrimination, stigma, refusal to accommodate, structural stigma, lack of diversity, equity and inclusion and severe retaliation. I was unsure of how this was occurring due to their being a Human Rights Act, an Anti-Hate law, and a discrimination free policy at the campus.
When I was in my third year, I made the courageous decision to hold the discrimination, stigma and lack of equity and diversity accountable in two separate classes where it was occurring. I did this through a total of 8 different initiatives including projects, a proposal, a research paper, a presentation, conversations, and an email. My goal was to voice my discomfort about the ongoing accepted discrimination and stigma, update their education about the human rights act, the discrimination free policy at the school as well as the laws that are in place that need to be followed. As well as encouraging them to become more diverse and inclusive.
Regardless of there being a human rights act, policies and laws in place all 8 attempts to voice my own human rights were met with complete refusal to stop participating in the discrimination and refusal to become more inclusive which was met with severe retaliation.
The refusal to stop participating in the discrimination as well as the ongoing retaliation led to me making a report about the ongoing discrimination, stigma and retaliation at the conflict resolution office/Human Resources office. I specifically stated in my report that I needed it to remain 100% confidential due to the fear of facing more ongoing retaliation.
After making the report I was in fact met with more retaliation by an individual who was not at all involved with the complaint which was bizarre. When I was scheduled for a follow up meeting, I refused to attended due to having the very strong assumption that my confidentiality was broken under the privacy law and I communicated I was going to contact a lawyer to see what my options would be for the situation. I was given a written response stating that my report stayed 100% confidential. My gut feeling was telling me that something was not adding up.I found out several months later that in between the two dates of me making the confidential report and them stating that it stayed 100% confidential my confidentiality was in fact broken under the privacy law to someone who was not involved with the case at all. I was not certain how this was ever justified due to the fact that there was never a need to lie about breaching the privacy law with someone who was not involved with the investigation. Due to the confidentiality breach leading to more retaliation I decided to make another report about the retaliation and they completely neglect to do an investigation a total of 2 times. I requested an apology for my experience of facing the discrimination, stigma and retaliation and they completely refused to provide it.
The 2 professors who were involved with participating in the discrimination, stigma, lack of diversity who refused to stop participating in to and change to become more inclusive and chose to retaliate discovered anonymous reviews on their rate my professor profile. The reviews content included that they participate in discrimination, stigma, lack of diversity refuse to stop and retaliate when held accountable. Regardless of both professors habitually participating in both of those behaviours and me having valid evidence of all of occurring. The school allowed them to title it “false allegations” and allowed and encouraged them to punish me through the student conduct office for several months.
The intimidation, threats and punishments that I received for anonymous reviews about discrimination and retaliation was taken to a disturbing and inhumane extent. I am not certain how the campus allowed this to occur due to the professors participating in the discrimination retaliation.I got threatened with being expelled from my school, and I was threatened with a lawsuit several times, they forced me into several meetings and I was demanded to understand that the discrimination and retaliation reviews were false regardless of having evidence of it occurring. The professors were allowed to intimidate, threaten and punish me for several months while they refused to give an apology or take any accountability about the discrimination and retaliation, they choose to participate in.
Throughout the several months of enduring the intimidation, threats and punishments I had requested multiple questions regarding this case to understand how any why it was allowed to be handled with such a lack of integrity to this extent. Regardless of asking multiple questions to get a better understand of how and why I was facing severe punishments and they were accepted to not give an apology or take any form of accountability I was refused an answer. I would ask multiple questions, on multiple occasions to multiple staff at the University. All of which would be completely ignored and neglect and I would get reprimanded and punished for asserting my skepticism about this case.
The refusal to provide answers as to how and why I was being threatened with a lawsuit and getting expelled for voicing my discomfort with the ongoing discrimination and stigma occurred prior to the hearing, during the hearing as well as after the hearing. I would get reprimanded and punished each and every single time I asked a question about this case, regardless of making multiple requests over the span on months to multiple staff at the campus.
I was never given an apology for the discrimination, stigma, retaliation, unlawful punishments, lack of integrity while handling this discrimination complaint as well as the 3-privacy breaches under the privacy law. Regardless of making a request for a genuine apology and providing the campus with valid evidence to support each claim.
Facing the discrimination, stigma, structural stigma, lack of equity, diversity and inclusion and retaliation after reporting it. The school choosing to handle this discrimination complaint with a severe lack of integrity, allowing 3 privacy breaches, and putting me through months of severe intimidation, threats and punishment for voicing my discomfort about discrimination is not acceptable. My experience at this campus has been disgusting, inhumane and devastating to endure while paying 30,000$ for my education, earning nearly perfect grades and attendance.
None of this experience is deformation, libel or slander. It is in fact my accurate experience at this campus of how they discriminate, refuse to stop and mishandle discrimination complaints to a disturbing extent. then justify threatening students with lawsuits and getting expelled. They have 100% refused to provide an apology or take any form of accountability for my experience at the campus regardless of there being valid evidence. #notlibel #endstigma
