Heidelberg is a great little university town, with some awesome tourist attractions (i.e. the famous castle) to boot. What's more, it's the oldest university in Germany. How can you go wrong?

Studying and researching in Germany
Uxue B
Germany, Graduate
Biology, 2007
Overall
Heidelberg is one of the best places to choose for studying and starting research activities in the fields of natural sciences. The best technical and personal scenario (novel laureates and well known researchers), with a big range of the most important research organizations in the fields of health sciences (DKFZ, EMBL, Max Planck Institutes, etc) amongst others (Physics, chemistry, law), all with a global recognized foot print. Close to the academic research and in close collaboration with it, there is a fast growing start up environment that represents the strong industry in the biotechnology area. Proud to had the possibility to learn from this unique conglomerate of history, innovation, development and technology infrastructures.

Heidelberg is gorgeous and so idyllic...plus, it has the most international exchange students in Germany, which means you can meet So many different types of people...it's like it's own little microcosm of society, that you hate to leave - definitely one of those places where you wish you could stay more than 1-2 semesters

When travelling, use STA Travel (it's next to Starbucks on the Hauptstrasse). before you leave, get an international student ID made before you leave for Germany. And USE RYAN AIR TO THE FULLEST EXTENT in terms of travelling around Europe. Plus, a BahnCard 50 (from the Deutsche Bahn) is a good investment if you plan on travelling.
