Generally, I really like my program and course but...

I have mixed feelings about my experience at RMIT most recently. Generally it's positive – mostly my course coordinators have been very helpful & happy to answer questions as well as supportive & providing interesting course material. My Program Manager has also been extremely supportive, encouraging & happy to assist. However there are clearly some VERY bad eggs. Despite my other course coordinators being very happy with me & saying as much eg 'pleasure to teach' etc, one course coordinator had a lot of difficulty answering questions and justified this as due to my behaviour as being adversarial, using this a reason to withhold results & feedback when I requested a review of marking. Unbelievably, I also received a phone call from the Dean of the area relating to that specific course, intimating that if I was to continue with the review of marking and appeal process which I had initiated, they would pursue me through the RMIT Student Charter for adversarial behaviour, despite the other course coordinators stating the complete opposite. I was so disturbed that I blocked her number. Can you believe it??? I certainly can't.

Points forts
I really like my course, my program manager & most of the course coordinators.
Inconvénients
Rare course coordinators have the potential to be unhelpful, subjective & mess with your marks because they don't like you.

My experience abroad was the best thing I could have done! My recommendation-to really experience the culture. Most people go to party and have a great time, but very few work or live like an Australian lives. I would also take the time and do some traveling. You only live once! If you can't afford it, work and travel more, work again and travel. Its worth it!

There isn't anything that I can think of off hand. I think the hardest part is figuring out what type of place you want to live; w/a family, on your own, or in a college.

RMIT is ok, I don't really think it was the university for me. The bonus for me was I was a senior when I went so I had most of my core classes out of the way and I could just take whatever I wanted...as you can probably tell I didn't go for the education part.

I really loved Melbourne and felt very welcome everywhere that I traveled. I miss Australia heaps, and am hopefully going back at the end of this year. Definitely make sure you get the student travel passes to fly to different cities when you purchase your original flight down under! Those are a killer deal. Take as much time as you can to travel around, I only had a month, and I wish I would've had more!!!

Well, you really can't go wrong studying abroad. I have travelled a lot so I didn't experience any culture shock or problems like that. (It was Australia too, not that different.) There were some people who really missed home and friends, etc., and had a hard time getting adjusted, but there were so many other exchange students that it was easy to find someone to relate to and help out. As for travel, I definitely recommend saving up the extra cash and allowing as much time as possible. Oz is HUGE and there it just too much to do. It can get expensive though. I went to South-East Asia as well, which was totally excellent!!!

Don't hang out with other exchange students, do all you can to meet locals in the community and go out with them as much as possible! You're there to get away from your home country!

Australia's "culture" wasn't completely different from America, and you really have to hunt to find differences! Take advantage of your surroundings, find an internship instead of taking an extra course, and Talk to strangers! Take lots of pictures!
