“Disappointed with Lack of Support After Completing Graduate Certificate”

OverallI completed the Graduate Certificate in Domestic and Family Violence Responses at QUT in 2024. There’s no help with gaining experience or finding work. Employers ask for paid experience, but QUT offers no placements or training. The course was promoted as a career pathway, but the support after finishing is very poor.

The QUT Careers Office provided little to no help after I completed my Graduate Certificate in Domestic and Family Violence Responses. They offered no guidance for gaining experience or finding jobs in the field. I expected more practical support and advice, especially for students entering a competitive area like community services.

This is a course that I am unable to recommend. Course progression is not unified. Minimal feedback on assignments, some staff do not follow up on feedback, some subjects with belated and overly complicated assessment guides when there are no model assessments. The LMS is not updated from previous and now changed assessments. One class had over 130 students, so there was no real interaction online with the lecturer, but we were directed to introduce ourselves. Time wasting exercise and not best practice. Not allocated a tutor in the field of your study. As far as I am aware there are no Indigenous lecturers attached to the MEd. This is a problem.
