There is no better way to constantly converse in a foreign language while learning about typical customs, familiy life, etc. in your host country.

While home stay accomodations obviously depend on the individual family, mine could not have been better and were, in fact, the best aspect of my educational experience in Ecuador.

Why?
I had a 4 month agreement to live with the family and afterwards I decided to live on my own. The amount of money that I was paying to live with a host family was equal to the cost of living in a hostal, eating out three times a day and having enough left over for beer money at night. It was not a very economical arrangement by any means.

I enjoyed living with the family, but I payed way too much to do so and I lived too far away from the University and everything.

Even though I did not live on campus the campus itself is nice. There is always something going on. I loved sitting outside in between classes
